Saskatoon's independent rock scene is as strong as it has ever been and artists like Close Talker bring that environment to another level. The trio have been hard at work over the past few years with long tours, a new album release, as well as a few music videos. With Lens we get a fresh look into the musings of this talented group of guys.

Lens has a large amount of synth bass throughout the album due to the lack of a bassist and right away it is present in the opening track "All Of Us". This song sets the mood of the entire album that balances somewhere along the line of being moody and eerie. The idea behind the album makes an appearance on the track "Reptiles", a song about putting up fake personas to deal with situations that you may not be pleased with only to have your skin shed eventually. "Brothers" hits us with a great chorus overtop the pretty guitar riffs placed in the backdrop. The next song on Lens got doubled as a single with a music video. "Okay Hollywood" has a more commercialized structure however is still a well written song that touches on a character that is super self-involved. Check out the video below!

NPR seemed to really like the track "Afterthought" and I don't blame them, it is a pleasant song with its dreamy instrumental and catchy chorus. "Waking Up" hits a lot harder than most of the songs on Lens, with high energy and the grooviest chorus this track can easily be one of the best tracks to view live. With both "Hold Up, Rewind" and "So What?" we get a couple full sounding tracks with many elements incorporated to create a smooth vibe  that is very enjoyable. "Figure Eights" sees more love from the keys and a bass guitar shows up! With an eerie feel and a change up halfway through this song gives me an MGMT vibe, and that is pretty cool. The album closer slows it down a bit and gives Lens the perfect ending. "Seasonal Friends" is a loving send off to friends that have come and gone due to touring as well as other events that happen to all of us that seem to distance us from our friends.

Lens is well crafted album that captures its emotional and eerie vibe perfectly, produced by the the talented Matt Peters we can see elements of his work throughout this album to produce a collective sound alongside Close Talker. When looking through the lens of life we are always analyzing those around us but sometimes we forget to analyze ourselves and see what kind of energies we put out there for others to feel and relate to. Sometimes taking a more sensitve apporach to topics concerning others and trying to see things through their viewpoint can help make a change in this world.
